Cooling System: The Difference Between a Long Life and a Cracked Head

We say this to every customer who asks us to “just top up the coolant and we’ll deal with it later”: don’t. In a country where ambient temperature alone can approach engine operating temperature, a cooling system that’s even 15–20% degraded has almost no margin left.

Your cooling system is really five components working together — radiator, water pump, thermostat, coolant, and the expansion tank and hoses that hold it all under pressure.
